Everything that makes the RR-36-VS a step above the entry-level resonator field — the European hand-spun spider cone, the sandcast spider bridge, the all-mahogany construction, the dovetail neck joint and Sitka spruce bracing — is all here in the RR-36S-VS. The difference is in the neck profile.

The squareneck raises the strings high off the fretboard and makes the Maxwell a dedicated lap instrument. Where the roundneck RR-36-VS can be played in any position, the squareneck commits fully to the slide tradition, and rewards that commitment with a tone that's bigger, more open, and more resonant than its roundneck counterpart. The parallelogram soundwell and mahogany body that deliver crisp attack and minimal overtones on the standard Maxwell do so with even more authority in this configuration.

The hardware honors the tradition it belongs to. Classic butterbean tuners, ivory body binding, black/white/black top purfling, and the gloss vintage sunburst finish give the Maxwell Squareneck a look that belongs to a long lineage of American acoustic craftsmanship. A bone nut, padauk fretboard, and ebony/maple saddle ensure that the playing experience matches the visual promise.
