The RM-998-R is the Style-O in its most classically restrained form. The round hole coverplate — a single circular opening over the cone rather than the three-pronged chickenfoot of the RM-998-D — gives this instrument a cleaner, more open look that some players simply prefer.

Beneath the coverplate, everything is identical. A 9.5" hand-spun Recording King cone, Honduran mahogany neck, and hard maple bridge form the core of an instrument built directly from the pre-war Style-O tradition. The nickel-plated bell brass body delivers incredible projection and classic resonator tone — that dry, immediate, cutting single-cone voice that defines the Delta blues sound.

The round hole coverplate also has a subtle tonal dimension worth noting. The larger, unobstructed opening allows the cone to project more freely and directly, giving the RM-998-R a slightly more open and immediate top-end response compared to the RM-998-D.

A bell brass tailpiece, M.O.P. dot position markers, and nickel-plated tuners complete the hardware spec, while the plated Recording King logo headstock and nickel finish give the instrument its characteristically bold, unadorned presence.
